Oscar’s best
Kudos to Patrick Goldstein for spotlighting the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ neglect in recognizing comedic films as best picture contenders [“Loosen Up, Oscars,” Oct. 28].
Steve Martin’s “Roxanne” is one of those films. So is “Big.” Twenty years later, they’re both films that still hold up strong. Both films won numerous awards in other competitions but got shunned in the Oscars’ best picture category. And that’s a shame. Great stories are great stories, but comedy’s so much harder to do well.
