Prop. 5 is needed
Re “Sheen to lead fight against rehab measure,” Aug. 28
Sorry to have to disagree with one of my favorite presidents, Martin Sheen.
His position on Proposition 5 leads me to believe he does not understand that his and his son Charlie’s experiences cannot be generalized to a population that leaves prison with no money, no resume and no hope.
Of course treatment doesn’t work for every addict. Neither does punishment. But enough people get help to make treatment for nonviolent offenders -- not prison-- the only game in town at this moment in history. Proposition 5 will help more and cost less.
