Bottom 10

Did ex-West Virginia coach Rich Rodriguez ruin two teams when he jumped to Michigan in the off-season, allegedly destroying some player files at his old school? Could be. With their 1-2 records and spread-thin offenses, the Mountaineers (11-2 last year) and the Wolverines (9-4 in 2007) are vying for Biggest-Comedown-of -2008 honors.

Also in the running, or rather stumbling, is Rutgers, which has degenerated from 8-5 last season to 0-3 this year, enough to merit a jump to No. 1 in the Bottom Ten.

Meanwhile, No. 6 San Diego State (0-3) did not play last week but, after extensive negotiations, the team has tentatively agreed to resume its schedule this week.

And Norfolk State (2-2) made its debut at No. 18 after a stunning 12-42 loss to undermanned William & Mary (William missed the game for personal reasons).

* Crummy game of the week: The SMUs (1-3) vs. Tulane (1-2).

* Rout of the week: Wisconsin (3-0) over Michigan (1-2).

* Defector: Vanderbilt (4-0), which made the Associated Press poll (at No. 21) for the first time in 24 years, has been suspended for the rest of the season by the Bottom Ten.

* Where-are-they-now dept.: Organizers of the website bringbacktitanfootball.com are urging Cal State Fullerton, which dropped football in 1992, to bring back the sport. The Bottom Ten heartily backs this movement. Bring back Cal State Disneyland!
