at Houston 5, Atlanta 4: Pinch-hitter Darin Erstad hit a game-winning home run in the ninth inning, but the Astros were eliminated from playoff contention.

at St. Louis 7, Cincinnati 6: Albert Pujols homered and raised his average four points to .357 in a late, longshot bid for his second batting title.
