HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL
Mission Viejo Capistrano Valley (14-5, 5-2) at Dana Hills (12-7, 5-2)
Why it matters: Capistrano Valley is trotting out ace Tyler Matzek (5-1, 1.64 earned-run average) in this battle of teams tied with Rancho Santa Margarita Tesoro atop the South Coast League standings. Matzek pitched a one-hitter against Dana Hills last month during the Cougars’ 6-0 victory. The Dolphins are looking to bounce back after losing three of their last four games, including a doubleheader sweep against Valencia on Saturday in which they were outscored, 26-5.

TUESDAY’S RESULT
Arcadia 10, Burbank Burroughs 3
Top contributors: Tim Smoley of Arcadia hit a three-run home run. Jon Larson of Arcadia had three hits and two RBIs.
The scoop: Smoley, a senior first baseman who batted .400 last season, has been in a season-long slump, batting .229, but he hit his fifth home run in the second inning to ignite the Apaches.
Why it matters: Arcadia and Burroughs were part of a three-way tie for first place in the Pacific League with Burbank.
Records: Arcadia 15-3, 6-1; Burroughs 12-4, 5-2.
