Mum’s the word for the Titans’ Young
As the Detroit Lions ponder the pros and cons of taking a quarterback with the first pick in Saturday’s NFL draft, they might want to consider the plight of former first-rounders Matt Leinart and Vince Young.
Leinart, the 10th player selected in the 2006 draft, is stuck on the bench because of Kurt Warner’s surprising career turnaround.
Young, chosen third in the 2006 draft by the Tennessee Titans, now finds himself surrounded by quarterbacks challenging for the job he vacated last season. In recent moves, the Titans re-signed starter Kerry Collins for $14 million over two years and added veteran Patrick Ramsey.
Asked about his predicament by the Tennessean, Young said, “I am just going to keep my mouth closed, man. All I am doing this year is shutting up, just shutting up and working. I am going to smile and shut up and continue being Vince Young, a happy smiling guy. I am not going to get into the hoopla any more because of the fact I can’t win any more, I see.
“I am just going to shut my mouth and play my role, and if they need me then I will be available as a weapon.”

Another assist by LeBron
Coach of the year is an honor often reserved for the NBA coach who does the most with the least talent, a trend bucked by Mike Brown of the Cleveland Cavaliers this season.
“Mike Brown is one of these rare people that has nearly every tool in his tool box,” Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert said in a statement.
“He is smart, hard working, and selfless. He is curious and hungry to learn. He is philosophically driven and derives his decision making from his strong philosophy.”
Brown also has LeBron James. As they say in NBA coaching circles, it’s good to have The King.

Pouring it on the Yankees
Excerpts from David Letterman on Monday’s Late Show: “This just in: George Steinbrenner has ordered the Yankees back on steroids.
“Everybody is all excited because they have the brand-new Yankee Stadium, and they have the big game up there in the Yankee Stadium. The Cleveland Indians beat them, 22-4. Here’s the guy you got to feel bad for: the Yankees’ pitcher, the Taiwanese guy, Chien-Ming Wang. I have never seen this happen before. He got lit up so bad, Yankee Manager Joe Girardi goes out there to the mound and you think, ‘Oh, he’s going to either replace him or settle him down.’
“He deported him!”

Trivia answer
Three. Ramsey has played for the Washington Redskins, the New York Jets and the Denver Broncos. When he takes a snap with the Titans, he will make the number four.

And finally
From Jim Armstrong of the Denver Post: “Some woman was bitten several times the other day after leaping into the polar bear lair at a Berlin Zoo. OK, so I’ll give you that. But name me one other thing more painful than watching the Nationals.”
