Re “Student sues L.A. City College District over gay-marriage speech,” Feb. 16
It is disturbing when college professors blatantly advocate for one side of a controversial issue such as homosexual marriage. It’s repugnant when this occurs in a public-speaking course.
Professor John Matteson was entirely out of line when he allegedly referred to one of his students as a “fascist bastard” for expressing his personal and/or religious views on homosexual marriage. An institution of higher learning should be a place where open and respectful dialogue takes place -- not where freedom-of-speech rights are censored.
Where’s the ACLU when it is really needed?
