Hit: In the primary rough just off the right edge of the fairway on par-four No. 3, Steve Elkington sent a thing of beauty 165 yards over the bunker guarding the pin and right in for eagle. After all, the guy did win the last major played here, the 1995 PGA.
Miss: Would it be too hopelessly optimistic to cite a super miss rather than a blooper miss? Because when Phil Mickelson’s chip from 35 feet on No. 6 landed dutifully, rolled slightly and did a horseshoe around the cup before stopping at two feet, it epitomized a ridiculously good round.
