In praise of pedicabs
Re “San Diego puts brakes on pedicabs,” July 19
Last September, I took Amtrak from Union Station to San Diego, where I tried in vain to get a taxi to drive me a short distance to my conference hotel.
Three cab drivers refused, sneering that I should take my suitcase and walk because the mere half-mile drive wasn’t profitable enough to entice them to take me.
Fortunately, I found a very accommodating pedicab driver who was eager to pedal me and my suitcase to the hotel.
Though I understand the necessity of some regulation of pedicabs for safety reasons, I hope the powers that be in San Diego appreciate that these drivers are willing to work.
On my return, I had the hotel hail a pedicab for me.
