Long Beach State beats Alaska Anchorage, 86-65

at Long Beach State 86, Alaska Anchorage 65: Larry Anderson’s 18 points and seven assists led the 49ers (1-0) over the Seawolves (1-1). Casper Ware had 16 points and six assists for Long Beach State. All five starters for the 49ers scored in double digits. Forward T.J. Robinson led the game with 11 rebounds. Alaska Anchorage was led by center Malcolm Campbell with 11 points and seven rebounds.

Loyola Marymount 83, North Dakota 60: Vernon Teel scored 15 points to lead four players in double figures as the Lions (1-1) defeated the Fighting Sioux (0-2) in the Grizzly Tournament at Missoula, Mont. Teel also pulled down six rebounds, dished out six assists and had six steals. Patrick Mitchell led the Fighting Sioux with 16 points.

at New Mexico 67, UC Riverside 51: Roman Martinez scored a game-high 18 points to lead the Lobos over the Highlanders in the season opener for both teams. The Highlanders got 11 points from Sean Cunningham, but they shot only 32.7% from the field.

at Cal State Fullerton 93, Hope International 57: Orane Chin had 18 points and five rebounds to lead the Titans over the Royals. It was the season opener for the Titans, who shot 61.5% from the field and 55.6% from three-point range. Brian Tollette led the Royals with 15 points and five rebounds.

at UC Santa Barbara 85, Cal State L.A. 57: Orlando Johnson was a perfect eight for eight shooting, scoring 19 points, as the Broncos defeated the Golden Eagles in their season opener. The Broncos shot 53.7% from the field. Cal State L.A. was led by guard Dwayne Jones with 15 points.

UC Santa Barbara basketball: A Nov. 15 Sports roundup of Southland college basketball games misidentified the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos as the Broncos. It also said Santa Barbara’s Orlando Johnson was eight for eight in shooting in the victory over Cal State L.A. He was seven for seven. —
