Seattle broadcaster a deft forecaster

Seattle Mariners broadcaster Mike Blowers must have set some sort of record Sunday when he predicted during the pregame show that Matt Tuiasosopo would hit his first major league home run later that day.

More than that, Blowers predicted Tuiasosopo would reach the second deck . . . in his second at-bat . . . on a 3-and-1 count . . . off a fastball.

Sure enough, Tuiasosopo delivered exactly how Blowers called it.

Too bad there is no Las Vegas franchise in the American League. But the Mariners’ season ends in a few days, and Blowers will have plenty of time to book a trip.

Dropping the gloves

Several New York Rangers attended David Letterman’s show on Wednesday, when they were asked to recite the Top 10 Things Never Before Spoken by a Hockey Player.

Among them:

“Instead of fighting, why don’t we work things out over brunch?”

“Between you and me, I have no idea what the hell icing is.”

“High scorer gets to pick which Barbra Streisand CD we listen to on the bus.”

“For good luck, I lick the puck.”

“I wish Letterman was on at 10.”

Ban the right man

Last week in Oakland Raiders football. . . .

Ex-Raider-turned-broadcaster Rich Gannon was banned from the practice facility because of his on-air criticism of the team. Then, on Sunday, the Raiders went out and lost to the Denver Broncos, 23-3.

After three games, quarterback JaMarcus Russell has a 41.3 completion percentage and a 39.8 passer rating.

“Still can’t believe the Raiders tried to keep Rich Gannon from the team’s practice facility,” wrote Mark Kriegel on FoxSports.com. “I mean, if Al Davis really wants to bar a quarterback from the premises, then maybe he should think about JaMarcus Russell.”

Trivia answer
