A font of creativity
If you’re a font nerd, then do not go to www.myfonts.com. You’ll easily waste a couple of hours surfing the serif, the sans-serif, cursive, Deco, Swiss -- fonts from more than 500 designers. They range in price from free to $75, but even niftier is a feature called What the Font? It allows users to upload a photo of a font for identification. There’s also an iPhone app that allows you to snap a picture of some bit of typography you saw on the street or in a magazine, then find out what it is. Kevin Woodward, the company’s Web product manager, said script fonts are having a moment. Plain text fonts are workhorses, he said, but “a script font is more like a fashion accessory.” In other words, a lot of people already have a trusty pair of jeans, but they’re shopping for a cute top to go with it.
