A passenger train ran into the back of a second train just outside Cairo, killing at least 25 people and injuring 55 others.
The train that caused the collision was headed south from Cairo to Assiut, while the one ahead of it was traveling from Giza province to the oasis town of Fayyum, said Egypt’s official Middle East News Agency.
Egypt’s railroads have a poor safety record. The country’s worst railway accident took place in February 2002 when a train heading to southern Egypt caught fire, killing 363 people.
