Napa Valley deal: Holiday hoopla inspires a skating + room package starting at $98 per night

The Napa Valley town of Yountville kicked off its first WinterScape celebration last weekend. Ice skating under the stars in a clear-top tent, horse-drawn carriage rides and, of course, wine tastings are some of the activities this month. In keeping with the spirit, a number of hotels, inns and wineries are luring merry-makers with seasonal specials.
The deal: The Winter Wonderland Package at the Maison Fleurie bed-and-breakfast takes 30% off regular room rates, with discounted prices starting at $98 plus tax per night. The deal also includes two ice-skating passes to a tented rink (open Dec. 11 to Jan. 2) outside the tony V Marketplace. Apart from the package, rooms at the French Country-style inn already come with a full breakfast, freshly made cookies and afternoon wine and hors d’oeuvres.
When: Good for midweek stays from Dec. 12 through Jan. 2. The inn’s website lists blackout dates for this offer starting Dec. 23. However, when I called, a reservation agent said ithe inn may honor the package rate during the holidays if there’s availability. Bottom line: Call and ask if you’re planning a late December visit.
Tested: I checked on the inn’s website and selected the Petite Full Guest Room, the smallest room (just 9 by 9 feet) at this 13-room inn. Why? Because it was the cheapest: $98 plus tax per night. It’s on the third floor and has a full-size bed and a bath with shower only. I like the price well enough to forgo the extra space and amenities. Besides, there’s a pool and hot tub to enjoy instead of sitting in the room.
The room was available for a two-night stay starting Dec. 13 when I checked this week. In this deal, I saved $42 per night off the room rate plus $24 in ice-skating passes.
