Demons: After a young woman’s (Holliday Grainger) brother is abducted, Galvin (Philip Glenister) turns to Luke (Christian Cooke) -- a descendant of vampire hunter Van Helsing -- for help in rescuing children from the grips of Gilgamel (Rick English), a centuries-old demon masquerading as an angel. Richard Wilson and Ben Walker also guest star in the premiere of this new horror series (5 and 8 p.m. BBC America). A second new episode follows at 6 and 9.
Austin City Limits: New Orleans songwriter Allen Toussaint sings songs from his album “The Bright Mississippi” in this new episode (11 p.m. KLCS).
Saturday Night Live: Charles Barkley hosts, with musical guest Alicia Keys (11:29 p.m. NBC).
MOVIES
Notorious: A government agent (Cary Grant) enlists the daughter (Ingrid Bergman) of a convicted German spy to gather evidence against her late father’s Nazi-connected accomplice (Claude Rains) in director Alfred Hitchcock’s 1946 thriller (5 p.m. TCM).
Watchmen: Ex-heroes in an alternate world -- circa 1985 -- are targeted for murder, prompting them to use their special abilities, in director Zack Snyder’s adaptation of the graphic novel by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons. Billy Crudup, Patrick Wilson and Malin Akerman also star (8 p.m. HBO).
Die Hard: New York cop John McClane (Bruce Willis) flies to Los Angeles to surprise his wife (Bonnie Bedelia) at her office Christmas party. But terrorists take the employees hostage, with McClane doing everything he can to save them (8:30 p.m. Spike).
Slumdog Millionaire: The big winner at the 2009 Academy Awards -- eight statues, including for best picture and best director -- filmmaker Danny Boyle’s popular, India-based drama follows an impoverished young man (played at the eldest stage by Dev Patel) determined to reunite with a fellow orphan (Freida Pinto) despite the many odds against it (10 p.m. Cinemax).
