Pepperdine rallies to defeat Loyola Marymount

at Pepperdine 79, Loyola Marymount 75: The Waves (5-12) opened the second half with a 23-4 run to rally in the West Coast Conference opener for both teams. The Lions (9-8) led by as many as 17 points in the first half and 38-25 at halftime. Mychel Thompson scored a game-high 22 points for the Waves and had a career-high six three-point baskets. The Waves connected on a season-high 14 three-point baskets, including nine of 12 in the second half. Jonathan Dupre’ made a three-point basket with two minutes remaining to give Pepperdine the lead for good, 67-65. Vernon Teel led the Lions with 17 points.
Cal State Fullerton 69, at UC Riverside 56: Aaron Thompson had 17 points and 10 rebounds, three teammates scored in double figures and the Titans (7-7, 2-1 Big West) ended a road losing streak at seven games. Sean Cunningham had 18 points and Kyle Austin had 17 for the Highlanders (7-8, 1-2), who lost for only the second time at home this season. Fullerton shot 54.5% from the field.
at Long Beach State 55, UC Irvine 53: Casper Ware scored 17 points to help the 49ers (7-9, 1-2 Big West) end a five-game losing streak. Eric Wise led the Anteaters (8-8, 2-2) with 12 points. Ware scored 12 points in the second half and made the winning shot with 1:34 to play, breaking a 53-53 tie. Irvine led, 25-21, at halftime, but made only nine of 26 shots (34.6%) in the second half. Long Beach State was 14 of 29 (48.3%) from the field after intermission.
