Dangerous Encounters With Brady Barr: Brady plunges into the Sea of Cortez in a bid to find a Humboldt squid — a deep-sea predator with a 7-foot tentacle span that is strong enough to pull a fisherman from his boat — and fitting it with a Crittercam in this new episode (6 and 9 p.m. National Geographic).

Friday Night Lights: Tensions in town run high as the Panthers-Lions game approaches, but Coach (Kyle Chandler) has bad news for Luke (Matt Lauria), and Tami (Connie Britton) ponders whether she should follow the school board’s wishes and issue a public apology in this new episode (8 p.m. NBC).

Eureka: Carter (Colin Ferguson, who also directed this new episode) leaves Eureka to visit his daughter at Harvard, but while he’s gone a new self-propagating oxygen technology developed by a scientist (Jamie Kennedy) in order to potentially colonize Mars begins to build up in the atmosphere above Eureka, threatening to incinerate the entire town (9 p.m. Syfy).

The Pillars of the Earth: Prior Philip and William (Matthew Macfadyen, David Oakes) find themselves in a standoff over access to the Shiring quarry as Jack’s (Eddie Redmayne) artistic talents take hold in this new episode (10 p.m. Starz).

JFK: Oliver Stone’s 1991 account of the alleged conspiracy surrounding the 1963 assassination of President Kennedy features stellar work by Tommy Lee Jones, Kevin Bacon and Kevin Costner. (8 p.m. AMC).
