BOOKS
Aimee Bender When young writers gripe about the uniform obsession with the epiphany-laden, hyper-realistic stories seemingly favored by the New Yorker, they’re not thinking about Bender. The local author of two short story collections, including the dazzling “Willful Creatures,” and the novel “An Invisible Sign of My Own,” has a second novel out, “The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake,” the story of a girl who can taste the emotions of anyone who prepares her food, including her mother. Book Soup, 8818 W. Sunset Blvd. 7 p.m. (310) 659-3110.
