Wine? Will the ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ tie-ins ever stop?

If another “Fifty Shades of Grey” product will drive you to drink, you’re in luck. Because author E.L. James is launching “Fifty Shades of Grey,” the wine.

James worked with California vintners to create two blended wines meant to evoke the bedroom-y nature of her books: Red Satin and White Silk. Our food blog Daily Dish, which knows wine far better than I do, describes them:

“Grey Red Satin is a blend of Petite Sirah and Syrah that has been aged in a combination of new and seasoned French oak barrels. The tasting notes include black cherry, cocoa powder, caramel, vanilla, leather and clove spice.

“The White Silk wine is a blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Gewürztraminer, aged in stainless steel, and is meant to have floral aromatics of lychee, honey and pear, crisp grapefruit, mineral and butterscotch.”

A bestselling book takes on its own momentum; there are dozens of unofficial items that refer to the erotic novel, from baby onesies to expensive condos.

So perhaps it’s fitting that James gets a cut of some official merchandise. Existing official “Fifty Shades of Grey” products include an album of classical music featured in the book, a wrist tie and two other items that Amazon files under “Health & Personal Care,” and, in England, a candle, keychain and blindfold.

And, of course, a “Fifty Shades of Grey” movie is on the way.

But could James let the franchising stop? She earned $95 million last year, according to Forbes, which calculates her as the world’s top-earning author for the period. Isn’t that enough?

The “Fifty Shades of Grey” wines sell for $17.99 a bottle and can be bought online at www.FiftyShadesWine.com. In October, White Silk and Grey Red Satin are expected to appear in stores.
