Deejay Madness at MGM Grand
Two venues at the MGM Grand are raising the EDM bar this month with an all-star deejay lineup set to mix things up June 20 to 23.
Electronic music luminaries Tiesto and Calvin Harris are scheduled to play at Wet Republic and Hakkasan in June — as are numerous other famous EDM acts, among them Steve Aoki.
“It’s a new challenge for me,” said Tijs Michiel Verwest, who goes by his stage name Tiesto. The Grammy-nominated artist announced an exclusive 20-month residency at the hotel casino back in February. “I’m skipping Ibiza [for this], which is a pretty big deal.… I’m really excited.”
At Hakkasan, the weekend begins with superstars Hardwell, Dannic and Dryo on Thursday, June 20. Tiesto spins Friday night (June 21), followed by Calvin Harris and Michael Woods on Saturday (June 22), and Deadmau5 with Fergie (the deejay, not the Black Eyed Peas singer) on Sunday, June 23.
Hakkasan, for those of you who haven’t heard, is a mega-club located in a five-story, 80,000-square-foot space that features a Michelin-starred modern Cantonese restaurant, elaborate cocktail lounges and a pavilion with a two-story waterfall.
At the other end of the MGM Grand is ultra pool Wet Republic, which features Aoki as the main attraction on June 21, with Harris taking over deejay duties on the 22nd. Tiesto closes the weekend on Sunday, June 23. Wet Republic recently completed a major renovation in March that included an expanded bar and improved lighting.
Wet Republic is open Thursdays through Mondays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Entry fees vary, depending on who is performing. More details are available at www.wetrepublic.com.
Hakkasan is open Thursdays through Sundays from 10 p.m. until late. Tickets start at $30 and are available at www.hakkasanlv.com/home.
