Acura issues stop-sale on TLX V-6 sedans
Acura has issued its dealers a stop-sale order for its new TLX sedan equipped with the optional V-6 engine and nine-speed automatic transmission.
Honda’s luxury arm has also notified the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration about an issue with the transmissions, the company confirmed Tuesday. This is the first step in a process that probably will result in Acura recalling this particular model.
The issue is related to the parking mechanism in the push-button transmission, which can fail to put the car in park properly, causing the car to potentially roll away.
Acura is still in the early stages in determining the scope of the issue and is coordinating its response with NHTSA. Thus, a full statement about the issue, including the number of vehicles affected and instructions on when owners can get their vehicles fixed, is not available yet, said Honda spokesman Chris Martin.
Acura put the 2015 TLX on sale late this past summer. Once it hit the market, the TLX quickly shot to the top of Acura’s sales charts, pulling in 15,293 sales through the end of November. Only the MDX crossover has been more popular on a monthly basis.
The TLX sedan combines the brand’s previous TL and TSX models into one that straddles the compact and mid-size sedan segments. The base TLX comes with a four-cylinder engine and an eight-speed dual clutch transmission, a model that is not affected by the transmission issues on the V-6.
