Chevy announces performance lineup for New York Auto Show
While Chevrolet made a trip across the pond to unveil its Corvette Stingray Convertible at this week’s Geneva Motor Show, the automaker is bringing much more than that to the New York Auto Show at the end of March.
The company announced that, in addition to the Stingray Convertible making its North American debut in New York, Chevy would also bring the Corvette Stingray coupe, the recently announced SS performance sedan, and a refreshed Camaro.
The lineup showcases Chevy’s performance vehicles, which the company says accounted for one out of three such vehicles sold in the U.S. in 2012.
“Chevrolet customers have validated our performance credentials with their enthusiasm,” Mark Reuss, GM’s president for North America, said in a statement. “We’re going to give them even more reasons to be enthused.”
Details on the updated Camaro remain thin, but expect modest interior and exterior changes, and possible bumps in horsepower from at least one engine variant.
Chevy’s SS will make it’s first auto show appearance since it was unveiled at the Daytona 500 in February. The rear-wheel-drive sedan will wring 415 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque from a 6.2-liter V-8 that’s largely based on the one in the outgoing 2013 Corvette.
The full-size SS will have a six-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters and Chevy expects it to do zero to 60 mph in about five seconds.
The two Corvette models will continue the Stingray’s tour since it was introduced at January’s Detroit Auto Show. As previously announced, both the coupe and convertible will have 450 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque paired with either a seven-speed manual transmission with rev-matching, or a six-speed automatic transmission.
Chevy’s performance lineup is just one component of a very busy New York Auto Show for General Motors. The company’s luxury Cadillac division will debut the highly anticipated CTS sedan, while Buick is expected to introduce thoroughly refreshed versions of its Regal and LaCrosse sedans.
