New videos detailing LaFerrari hybrid supercar hit the Web
If you’re not already sick of hearing about the all-new LaFerrari hybrid supercar -- and with 950 horsepower and a zero-to-124 mph time under seven seconds, why would you be? -- there are now several videos online to whet your appetite.
Ferrari posted six videos on its YouTube channel that spell out the details of items such as the chassis, hybrid drivetrain, and vehicle dynamics. The posting follows the LaFerrari’s much-hyped global debut at this week’s Geneva Motor Show.
Spend some time watching the videos and you pick up some interesting bits of information.

The most salient morsel is that Ferrari isn’t done with hybrids. One of the videos -- watch it here -- says that the hybrid component of the LaFerrari’s drivetrain is “a flexible and modular solution that will evolve for application to other models in our range.”

While purists may scoff at the idea of a 458 hybrid, remember that by adding the low-end torque of an electric motor, engineers tuning the LaFerrari’s 6.3-liter V-12 could optimize the engine’s performance higher in the power band. That’s a win-win that is useful on any car.

A hybrid drivetrain also helps lower Ferrari’s overall emissions to better comply with tightening regulations in markets like China, Europe and the U.S.
Also gleaned from the videos is the fact that the V-12 engine itself is the most powerful naturally-aspirated engine on any road car in the world. Sorry, Aston Martin One-77, your previous record of 750 horses is no match for LaFerrari’s 790.
Finally, we learned that despite packaging within the LaFerrari the electric motor, batteries, cooling system, dual-clutch gearbox and gas engine, the car’s length and wheelbase are identical to that of its predecessor, the Enzo.
