Neiman Marcus Christmas catalog to include new Aston Martin convertible

It’s not the most expensive gift in the Neiman Marcus fantasy gift catalog (that would be a $2.6-million 201-inch outdoor TV system), but it certainly could be the fastest.

Included in the upscale department store’s annual Christmas Book of big-dollar gifts, is one of 10 Neiman Marcus 2014 Aston Martin Vanquish Volantes.

The pinnacle of the Aston Martin line right now, this carbon-fiber-bodied convertible is mechanically identical to the Volante that will head to dealerships in early 2014.

This means it carries a potent 6.0-liter V-12 engine making 565 horsepower and 457 pound-feet of torque. With its six-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel-drive, the Vanquish Volante is good for a zero-60 mph run in 4.0 seconds and a top speed of 183 mph, according to Aston Martin.

Yet the trim on this Neiman edition is what will set it apart from your neighbor’s Vanquish Volante. The car is painted a deep Seychelles Blue (who hasn’t been there?), and the interior is black with Aurora blue trim throughout the cabin. The brake calipers on the standard carbon ceramic brakes are also blue, while the headliner is finished in ivory Alcantara (faux suede).

This loaded special edition sells for $344,500, a notable bump from the roughly $300,000 asking price of a base Vanquish Volante. If that seems like a steep price to put some wind in the hair of your favorite person, consider it also comes with a fitted four-piece luggage set.

This Aston will be available for ordering at noon on Oct. 23. With only 10 copies available, interested buyers should probably not wait. Previous cars sold through the Neiman Christmas catalog -- including a Ferrari FF in 2011 and McLaren MP4 12C Spider in 2012 sold out within a few hours of going on sale.
