Heat on ice: Dodge Challenger GT goes AWD
Just in time for winter, Dodge has unveiled an all-wheel-drive version of its Challenger GT.
The resulting vehicle, capable of baking up endless amounts of snow donuts, will retail for just under $35,000.
Dodge calls the new vehicle “the world’s first and only all-wheel-drive American muscle coupe.” The Challenger GT will be propelled by the Pentastar 3.6-liter V6 engine, which makes 305 horsepower and 268 pound feet of torque.
The car will come standard with both Vehicle Dynamic Control and Electronic Stability Control, which the company says will improve handling on snow and ice.
It will also be outfitted with a Sport mode and paddle shifters to make the drive experience a little more engaged. A Super Track Pak button will enable launch control and present dashboard information on lap times, G-force rates, and other performance data.
It will come stock with 19-inch aluminum wheels, wrapped with BSW all-season tires, fog lamps, and a rear spoiler.
The new AWD Challenger will use the same drive system found in the company’s Charger AWD. But Dodge was mum on whether that four-wheel option will become available in the company’s Hellcat cars — the Challenger and Charger vehicles that boast 707 horsepower.
Dodge says production of the new Challenger GTs will begin in early 2017, and deliveries will soon follow.
