Indian unveils new Chief Classic, Chief Vintage, Chieftain
Indian motorcycles has taken the wraps off a trio of new road warriors at the gathering of the clans at the 73rd annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in South Dakota, rolling out three massive machines for the 2014 season -- the Indian Chief Classic, the Indian Chief Vintage, and the Indian Chieftain.
The three beasts feature the 1947-era War Bonnet fender ornament, the company’s patented valenced fenders, and Indian’s massive new ThunderStroke 111 engine.

Among the more modern adornments: Keyless ignition, ABS, cruise control, a six-speed overdrive transmission, and throttle by wire in place of the old fashioned carburetor -- all standard.
The price ranges from $18,999 for the Chief Classic to $20,999 for the Chief Vintage to $22,999 for the Chieftain, which comes with hard-side saddlebags, a fancy, BlueTooth-enabled audio system and a power-operated adjustable windshield.

The company, which was founded in 1901 and boasts it is “America’s first motorcycle company,” is trying to continue to honor its legacy and find its place in the modern market. Acquired by powerports giant Polaris Industries in 2011, Indian has been aggressive about getting new machines into showrooms. Last year the company made a splash at the Progressive International Motorcycle Show in Long Beach, unveiling its stylish “Final Edition.”
