Sold: The 1925 house in Beverly Hills that time forgot
A Mediterranean estate in Beverly Hills that came on the market in February for the first time since it was built in 1925 has sold for $5.7 million, accord to the Multiple Listing Service. The property received six offers and went for $200,000 above its asking price to a buyer who intends to restore the home.
The time-capsule-like house, designed by Ray J. Kieffer, retains many of its original features. Six gravity-style furnaces provide heat to the two-story home, and built-in phone nooks hark back to a bygone era.
The grandchildren and relatives of the architect gathered at the home for a private showing shortly before escrow closed. Named Winter House for its owners, insurance executive Frank Winter and his wife, Florence, the 4,748-square-foot residence remained the home of their daughter, Frances, until her death late last year at 101.
Bret Parsons and Jerome Jahn of the John Aaroe Group were the listing agents. Felix Pena of Hilton & Hyland represented the buyer.
