Path rolls out private messaging, opens store in latest update

Path, the social network designed for close friends and family, began rolling out its latest major update for iOS users Wednesday.

In Path 3, the Silicon Valley start-up has added a private messaging feature for one-to-one messaging or group chats. Users will be able to use the new feature to send each other text and voice messages, their location, songs, books, photos and videos.

Users can also send each other “stickers,” which appear to be similar to emoticons but are much larger. Path only gives users a few stickers, though. To get more of them, users will have to make in-app purchases for them.

Stickers “are expressive and fun, and they communicate what words can’t,” Path said in an online announcement. “You can choose what speaks to you, and speaks best on your behalf.”

Those stickers can be bought from “The Shop,” another new feature of Path 3. Users can go to The Shop to buy new stickers as well as photo filters.
