Dunkin’ Donuts store opens in Barstow; San Diego store coming in 2014

Dunkin’ Donuts, a coffee and sweets staple on the East Coast, is landing in Barstow on Monday with the only California outlet readily accessible to civilian customers.

Last year, a branch of the chain opened on the Camp Pendleton military base in San Diego County, selling to the roughly 64,000 people who live, work and train at the site.

But the Barstow Station stop in San Bernardino County will cater to locals, road-trippers and anyone else who wants to haul themselves more than 100 miles northeast of Los Angeles.

Dunkin’, which is based in Canton, Mass., said earlier this year that it plans to work with franchisees to eventually launch up to 1,000 units across California.

The rollout is starting in San Bernardino, Riverside, Ventura, Orange and Los Angeles counties, with franchise agreements already in place for more than 70 free-standing restaurants set to open starting in 2015.

The company also has a contract with Embassy Suites San Diego to open a Dunkin’ Donuts stop in the first quarter of next year.

Last month Dunkin’ expanded its search for franchisees to the Central Valley, including Fresno, Bakersfield, Sacramento and Santa Barbara.
