Target says some holiday gift cards aren’t working
Target confirmed Tuesday that some gift cards sold before Christmas aren’t working for customers.
“We are aware that some Target gift cards were not fully activated and apologize for the inconvenience,” spokeswoman Molly Snyder said in a statement.
Snyder said that less than 0.1% of the cards sold during the holiday period are affected, and promised that Target will honor the non-functioning cards.
Patrons with problematic gift cards should visit the guest service desk at their local store or call the gift card line at 1-800-544-2943, Snyder said.
The Minneapolis-based retailer has spent the last few weeks trying to recapture customer confidence after revealing that hackers accessed account information on about 40 million customer credit and debit accounts.
The breach, which began during the Thanksgiving and Black Friday shopping weekend and lasted through Dec. 15, involved encrypted PIN data, Target said recently.
