Poway estate of late baseball great Tony Gwynn is ready for its next batter
The longtime home of the late Major League Baseball legend Tony Gwynn and his wife, Alicia, is on the market in Poway for $1,581,200.
Built in 1991, the Mediterranean-style house sits on close to two acres with a tennis court and swimming pool.
A long portico sits off the circular motor court and leads to the high-ceiling entry. The double front door has sidelights and an arched window above bringing in natural light.
Open plan space and more high ceilings bring a cavernous effect to the 7,370 square feet of interiors, which currently sit empty. The entertainer’s kitchen features an island with a second sink. There are seven bedrooms and six bathrooms.
Gwynn, who died in 2014 at age 54, is considered one to baseball’s top hitters with a career batting average of .338. The former San Diego Padres star and MLB Hall of Famer won the National League batting title eight times.
Alicia Gwynn is pursuing a music career and has released the albums “Energy on 10” and “I Am.” She has a production company and a line of wines.
The bank-owned property was new when the Gwynns took ownership. It sold in a foreclosure last year.
Tiffany Turner of Real Home Services & Solutions is the listing agent.
