Poway home for sale features full-sized baseball diamond
Baseball world, take note: A one-of-a-kind sports compound that has its own private diamond has returned to the market in Poway for $9.995 million.
Owned by sports agent Jonathan Weisz, the 42-acre property inside the Heritage, a guard-gated community, features a Mediterranean-style main house, a 3,000-square-foot guesthouse, a four-stall barn, a riding corral, fenced pastureland, a pool with a lazy river and a showroom-quality garage.
The main residence, designed for indoor-outdoor living, has a great room with folding doors, a chef’s kitchen with a large breakfast area, a media room, a game room and a wine cellar in about 13,000 square feet. In all, the property totals six bedrooms 14 bathrooms and over 18,000 square feet of living space.
But the real star of the show is a full-fledged baseball field that Weisz added to the property for his sons in 2007.
“It’s kind of surreal,” Kofi Natei Nartey, Weisz’s co-listing agent, said of the baseball field, which rests between opposite hillsides. “It opens up your imagination to what the possibilities are for your own family or your friends or if a ballplayer owned it for private training.”
Encircled by a white fence, the private-use field includes a major league-sized infield and a backstop. Nearby is a basketball half-court and a lighted batting cage.
Because of the unique sports facilities on the property, Nartey, who heads the sports and entertainment division at the Agency, believes the property is ideal for a professional athlete.
“The surrounding areas are great for training, particularly having hills and trails to run,” said Nartey, adding that a “full home gym” on the property includes a cold plunge, a dry sauna, a steam shower and a rain shower.
The Heritage, which borders the Maderas Golf Club, has long been a popular draw among current and former sports stars. Among nearby residents is former baseball outfielder David Justice and NFL lineman Ryan Pickett.
Pickett, most recently of the Green Bay Packers, currently has his home, which was previously owned by retired baseball player Jeromy Burnitz, on the market at $7.499 million. This year, former San Diego Chargers tailback LaDainian Tomlinson sold his Heritage estate for $3.495 million while Padres outfielder Carlos Quentin got $2.17 million for his area home.
Clinton Selfridge of Pacific Sotheby’s International Realty is the other listing agent on the property.
