Former Major League Baseball player and UCLA star Garrett Atkins has sold his home in Laguna Hills for $4.5 million.

The Italianate-inspired two-story, built in 2002 in an equestrian community, has 7,418 square feet of living space — just under the size of a baseball diamond.

Inside the front door is a chandelier-topped grand foyer with a sweeping staircase that opens to formal living and dining room areas.

Among the amenities are a center-island kitchen, a home theater and a den with a wet bar. The master suite sports a large soaking tub and a fireplace for a total of six bedrooms and eight bathrooms.

Sliding glass doors off the main level open to a covered loggia with a built-in barbecue, outdoor dining and fireplace. Formal landscaping, expanses of lawn, a lighted tennis court and a swimming pool with a waterfall feature complete the 2.2-acre setting.

The property came on the market earlier this month for $4.598 million and closed sale in about two weeks. Atkins bought the house two years ago for about $3.72 million, records show.

Shawn Halan of HOM Sotheby’s International Realty repped both sides of the transaction.

Atkins, 36, was a three-time All-American at UCLA and before that a standout at University High School in Irvine. The slugging third baseman played eight Major League seasons for the Colorado Rockies and Baltimore.
