Houston Astros owner Jim Crane seeks $37.9 million for Pebble Beach estate
Jim Crane, the owner and chairman of the Houston Astros franchise, has put his home in Pebble Beach on the market for $37.9 million.
The private estate sits on slightly more than nine acres and takes in ocean views extending from Carmel Bay up to Pescadero Point.
Surrounded by mature trees and lush landscaping, the contemporary-style main house was originally designed by San Francisco architect Germano Milono and built in 1951. Also within the grounds is a cabana, a pool house, a guesthouse and a caretaker’s cottage.
Formal living spaces feature vaulted ceilings and walls of windows that bring in natural light. Beige hues and wood finishes lend a subdued tone to the interiors. Other rooms include a den/office, a library and a wine cellar. There are eight bedrooms, 10 bathrooms and nine fireplaces in more than 11,900 square feet of combined living space.
Sliding glass doors extend the living space outside, where patios surround an infinity-edge swimming pool. Various entertaining spaces, look-out points, a fire pit and a bocce ball court complete the setting.
Crane bought the property in 1998 for $5.5 million, public records show. The Houston-based businessman is the chairman and chief executive of Crane Capital Group. He acquired the Astros from Drayton Mclane in 2011 for a reported $680 million.
