Heat’s Luol Deng scores historic waterfront home in Miami
Luol Deng, the veteran NBA forward who is expected to fill the void at small forward for the Heat in the post-LeBron James era, has paid $4.6 million for a home on the Miami waterfront.
The walled compound, built in 1928, occupies nearly three-quarters of an acre north of downtown Miami with a Mediterranean-style main residence, a two-story guesthouse, a pool, a boat dock with a lift and 107 feet of frontage on Biscayne Bay.
Lined in hardwood flooring, the updated floor plan includes a chef’s kitchen, a dining room, a formal living room, five bedrooms and 4.5 baths in 3,375 square feet of living space.
Outdoors, two mature palms frame views of the Miami waterfront. A covered patio and large expanses of grass are also found on the landscaped grounds.
The former Duke standout, 29, spent 10 seasons in the NBA with the Chicago Bulls and, briefly, the Cleveland Cavaliers, making two All-Star teams. He signed a two-year, $20-million free agent contract with the Heat this off-season.
The home last sold in 2001 for $1.03 million, public records show. The property originally came to market in May 2009 with an asking price of $4.9 million.
Nelson Gonzalez of EWM/Christie’s International Real Estate was the listing agent. Oren Alexander of Douglas Elliman Real Estate and Carolina Lara of Fonseca Duek Realty represented Deng in the sale, which closed Aug. 29.
