Tony Gonzalez scores with $6.3-million home sale in Orange County

Tony Gonzalez is moving on from his home field in Orange County. The former Huntington Beach High School star and retired NFL tight end has sold his Santa Barbara-inspired estate in Huntington Beach for $6.3 million.

The 6,000-square-foot home came on the market in late February for $6.995 million and was under contract by April, records show. Gonzalez paid $4.995 million for the property in 2007.

Located in a guard-gated community, the estate includes a five-bedroom, 5.5-bathroom main house, a guesthouse, a pool and spa and multiple entertainer’s patios on about three-quarters of an acre.

The main residence, built in 2000, has a foyer with a curving staircase, formal living and dining rooms, an office/den and a master suite with a sitting room and a soaking tub. A theater room with tiered seating and a 1,000-bottle wine cellar highlight the amenities.

Outdoors, the resort-style grounds center on a pool area flanked by cabanas, a fire pit and an outdoor kitchen. The 1,400-square-foot guesthouse features telescoping glass doors, a dining room, wet bar and 1.25 bathrooms.

Elsewhere on the grounds is a basketball half-court, large expanses of grass, a koi pond and a fruit and vegetable garden.

Gonzalez was a two-sport star at UC Berkeley, went on to play 17 seasons in the NFL for the Kansas City Chiefs and Atlanta Falcons and was named to the Pro Bowl 14 times. His 15,127 career receiving yards and 111 career touchdown receptions are the most in NFL history for a tight end.
