Home of the Day: John C. Austin’s Higgins House in Windsor Square

Set behind gates on about half an acre, this Queen Anne Victorian was designed by John C. Austin, who left his mark on Los Angeles with such landmarks as the Griffith Observatory and L.A.’s City Hall. Named for the original owner, Chicago grain merchant Hiram Higgins, the historic-cultural monument was built in 1902 on the corner of Wilshire and Rampart and later moved in sections to its current location in the early 1920s.
