Hockey great Wayne Gretzky sheds some real estate in Thousand Oaks

Legendary hockey player Wayne Gretzky has scored a sale in Thousand Oaks — no, not the Westlake Village estate that returned to market in December for $8.195 million, but rather a nearby townhouse in gated Sherwood Country Club.

On and off the market since late 2013, the 3,758-square-foot unit recently sold for $1.725 million. Gretzky bought the property nearly two decades ago, records show.

Built in 2000, the brick-lined residence sits at the end of a cul-de-sac and has two patios and a balcony. The hillside location takes in views of Lake Sherwood, the Conejo Valley and surrounding mountains.

Inside, interiors with hardwood floors include formal living and dining rooms, four bedrooms and four bathrooms. A pair of fireplaces are in in the family room and master bedroom.

A two-car garage sits off the front of the home.

Nicole Van Parys of Engel & Voelkers Westlake Village was the listing agent. Dee Dee Hubbard of Troop Real Estate represented the buyer.

The 54-year-old Gretzky won four Stanley Cup titles and made 18 all-star teams in 20 seasons with the Edmonton Oilers, Los Angeles Kings, St. Louis Blues and New York Rangers. He retired following the 1989-99 season as the NHL leader in all-time goals scored with 894.

He was inducted to the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1999.
