Apple iWatch could be more than a year away

If you were hoping to ask Santa for an iWatch this Christmas, you might have to revise your wish list: The rumored Apple device might be more than a year away.

The Financial Times is reporting that Apple is beginning to aggressively hire more employees to work on the wearable iOS device, but that may be a sign that the Cupertino, Calif. tech giant is having a hard time developing the product.

Since late last year Apple has been rumored to be working on a watch with smartphone-like features that users could connect to their iPhone via Bluetooth. Many have been hoping that the iWatch would be the first major new product launch for Apple since the original iPad back in 2010.

But unnamed sources told the Financial Times that the recent hiring spree implies that Apple may not be ready to sell the product until the late stages of 2014.

That’s bad news for Apple and its investors, considering the smartwatch market is quickly becoming a very crowded space.

Already, start-up Pebble is selling its smartwatches at Best Buy stores and Samsung has made it known that it is working on a smartwatch too, along with giants like Google and Microsoft.
