Apple to release Mavericks OS X in late October, report says

Don’t hold your breath for Apple’s Mavericks OS X -- it’s likely more than a month and a half away from coming out.

9to5Mac reports that Apple will launch the upcoming version of its laptop and desktop operating system in late October.

Apple announced Mavericks OS X in June. The company said it will feature a myriad of new tools for power users.

That includes the ability to tag files and new features for using multiple monitors. Additionally, Apple will upgrade various apps and features, including Safari, Notifications and its Calendar. New apps, like iBooks, will also be added.

In the past two years, Apple has released upgrades for OS X in July, but this year, the company appears to be distracted by the redesign of iOS 7 -- the upcoming version of the iPhone and iPad’s operating system.

9to5Mac and many others have reported that Apple had to shift engineers away from OS X and onto iOS in order to finish the new version, which includes a major design overhaul.

Apple will also release new versions of its Mac Pro, iMac and MacBook Pro computers later this year, according to 9to5Mac, so it may release Mavericks OS X alongside its new Macs.

Apple could not be reached for comment, but 9to5Mac has a strong track record of accurately reporting Apple product release dates before they are officially announced.
