Another Facebook co-founder, Chris Hughes, marries

Facebook’s Chris Hughes followed in the footsteps of fellow co-founder Mark Zuckerberg and tied the knot Saturday.

Hughes, 28, who has moved on from Facebook, was married to his longtime partner, Sean Eldridge, 25, in Garrison, N.Y., after going on their first date in 2005.

Just like Zuckerberg, the couple announced their marriage with a Life Event update on Facebook along with a set of pictures.

Hughes has been a part of various ventures since leaving Facebook to run the online portion of President Barack Obama’s 2008 campaign. In March, Hughes bought a majority stake of the New Republic magazine and is now its publisher and editor in chief.

Like his husband, Eldridge’s life has taken him through the political world, where he remains as the founder and treasurer of Protect Our Democracy, which is a campaign finance reform advocacy group, according to the New York Times. But Eldridge is also an investor and is the president of the investment firm Hudson River Ventures.

Eldridge is a graduate of Brown, unlike Hughes, who graduated from Harvard, the birth place of Facebook. The two met at a brunch one day in 2005 at Harvard Square in Cambridge, Mass.

Hughes and Eldridge’s wedding follows the surprise wedding of Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan in May. The couple married a day after Facebook went public at Zuckerberg’s house in Palo Alto, Calif. The two attended their Hughes and Eldridge’s wedding ceremony Saturday.

However, Hughes and Eldridge had been engaged since New Year’s Eve 2010, when Hughes proposed but could only “squeal” out an “I love you so much,” according to Advocate.com.
