Twitter will now display emoji icons on website
Count Twitter as the latest company to jump on the emoji bandwagon. The microblogging service said it will now display the cartoon icons on its website.
The San Francisco company made the announcement Wednesday afternoon in a tweet filled with a dozen of the playful icons.

Twitter already displayed emoji when viewed through its mobile app, but previously icons included in tweets showed up as blank boxes when viewed on the Web.
Emoji have become increasingly popular over the last few years. Google focused one of its April Fools’ Day jokes around emoji, allowing users to translate English text into the cartoon icons.
But emoji have also come under criticism for their lack of racial diversity -- there are no black emoji characters.
Apple, which supports emoji on its mobile and computer devices, recently said it was working with the Unicode Consortium to bring more diversity to the icons.
