Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg joins San Francisco gay pride parade

Facebook Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg and more than 700 of his employees walked in San Francisco’s gay pride parade Sunday.

Zuckerberg’s participation in the parade came after he posted a Facebook status last week lauding the U.S. Supreme Court ruling that a key section of the Defense of Marriage Act, which allowed states to refuse to recognize same-sex marriages, was unconstitutional.

“I’m proud that our country is moving in the right direction, and I’m happy for so many of my friends and their families. #PrideConnectsUs,” Zuckerberg said online.

Facebook said employees wore shirts of all colors to represent the symbol of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community. They were also joined by same-sex marriage advocate Brendon Ayanbadejo, a former linebacker with the Baltimore Ravens.

Several large tech companies have come out in favor of same-sex marriages, but Zuckerberg was one of the few CEOs to voice his support and participate in the parade.

Last week, YouTube kicked off its Pride campaign that included videos about the LGBT community, while Apple released a statement saying it applauded the Supreme Court’s decision.
