Gunman killed two people then walked into an LAPD station, police say

Two people are dead and one man is in custody following a pair of shootings in Mid-Wilshire and Koreatown on Tuesday that had detectives searching for possible links until officials say the gunman walked himself into the police station.

The first shooting took place in the 900 block of South Victoria Avenue in L.A.’s Mid-Wilshire neighborhood around 4:30 p.m., according to the Los Angeles Police Department. The gunman, identified Wednesday as 50-year-old Marvin Magana, first ran down his 43-year-old victim with a car, then fatally shot him and fled, police said.

Then, shortly before 10:30 p.m., a second shooting was reported in the 800 block of South Berendo Street in Koreatown.

Officers arrived at the scene and found a 38-year-old woman shot multiple times in the passenger seat of a vehicle, police announced in a news release.

Homicide investigators said the two shootings are connected, but the matter remains under investigation.

Sometime after the shootings, Magana walked into the 77th Street police station to report he had information about one of the shootings, police said.

He was eventually booked on suspicion of murder and is being held in lieu of $3-million bond.

The case will be presented to the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office on Thursday, police said.
