Emmys 2013: Nathan Lane scores two nominations for guest roles
Nathan Lane already has two Tony Awards, and now the actor could be adding two Emmys to his trophy shelf.
Lane received two Emmy nominations Thursday morning for his guest appearances on the ABC comedy “Modern Family” (as Pepper Saltzman) and the CBS drama “The Good Wife” (Clarke Hayden). The actor has been nominated twice before for Emmys but has never won, although he was received a Daytime Emmy for voice work on the animated series “Teacher’s Pet.”
On Broadway, Lane has won Tonys for his lead roles in “The Producers” and a revival of “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum.”
He is appearing in Douglas Carter Beane’s “The Nance” at Broadway’s Lyceum Theatre, for which he was Tony-nominated this year, but he lost to Tracy Letts in a revival of “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?”
Broadway regulars who also received Emmy nominations include Bobby Cannavale (“Nurse Jackie”), Mandy Patinkin “Homeland”), Christine Baranski (“The Good Wife”) and Robert Morse (“Mad Men”). Jane Lynch, who recently appeared in “Annie” on Broadway, was nominated for her role on “Glee.”
Playwrights Tom Stoppard and David Mamet also were nominated for Emmys.
In addition, the telecast for the 66th annual Tony Awards received five nominations, including for special class program and writing for a variety special.
