Video: Shia LaBeouf applauds satirical performance piece about himself

A satirical performance piece about Shia LaBeouf has found an unlikely fan: Shia LaBeouf.

The young actor appears at the end of a recently released YouTube video in which he applauds a stage performance inspired by his own strange public behavior.

“Shia LaBeouf Live,” as the video above is titled, is a piece by composer Rob Cantor and features a collaboration between several Southern California arts groups.

Featured in the performance are members of the Los Angeles-based Argus Quartet, the West L.A. Children’s Choir, the Gay Men’s Chorus of L.A. and several dancers who enact an interpretive number.

The video, which was shot at the Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center, also features on-stage effects by the Kinetic Theory Theater of Culver City.

In recent months, LaBeouf has received more publicity for his eccentric behavior than his movies. He was arrested in New York over the summer following an outburst at a performance of the musical “Cabaret,” and appeared at the Berlin Film Festival earlier in the year with a paper bag over his head.

LaBeouf recently opened up to talk show host Ellen DeGeneres, saying that “I went through like an existential crisis. ... I had some hiccups, some judgment errors.”

In a conversation published in the new issue of Interview magazine, LaBeouf states that “I don’t see a big difference between method acting and performance art. My work in my film and my work in my life have influenced who I’ve become. Life imitates art.”

The actor can currently be seen costarring with Brad Pitt in the World War II movie “Fury,” which recently topped the U.S. box office in its first weekend of release.
