Janis Joplin biopic is next for Nina Arianda after ‘Venus in Fur’
Nina Arianda’s career has been on a hot streak since she wowed audiences in David Ives’ drama “Venus in Fur,” which debuted at the Classic Stage Co. in New York and transferred to Broadway last year. In June, Arianda won a Tony for lead actress in a play.
The actress has reportedly signed on to play Janis Joplin in a new film project from director Sean Durkin, whose most recent film was the indie hit”Martha Marcy May Marlene.” As reported by Deadline, Arianda will sing in her own voice for the movie that is expected to begin shooting next year.
Joplin was a countercultural rock figure who died at age 27 in 1970. Film projects based on her life have been kicking around the movie industry for a number of years. At one point, Amy Adams was mentioned as a possible Joplin.
Arianda appeared in four movies last year, including Woody Allen’s”Midnight in Paris” and the comedy “Win Win.”
