Classic Hollywood: Silent-film series Retroformat will screen century-old comedies
Retroformat is one of L.A’s long-running silent film series. It screens — on vintage projectors — restored 8mm and 16mm film prints that were sold to collectors and public libraries from the 1950s through the ‘70s. On Saturday, Feb. 27, Retroformat is celebrating the 100th anniversary of the comedy “Fatty and Mabel Adrift,” starring Fatty Arbuckle and Mabel Normand with a screening at the Spielberg Screening Room at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood. Other comedies in the program include 1915’s “Mabel and Fatty Viewing the San Francisco World’s Fair” and “Mabel, Fatty and the Law.” Cliff Retallick supplies the live accompaniment.
