TV ratings: ‘Super Fun Night’ slips, ‘Modern Family’ wins demo

Wednesday night was pretty fun for ABC in the ratings, though Rebel Wilson’s “Super Fun Night” continued to lose viewers in its third week.

Last night’s Halloween-themed episode of the comedy, about a group of shut-ins who decide to party beyond their comfort level, drew 6.02 million viewers and a rating of 2.1 in the key 18-49 demographic, down 16% from last week, according to early numbers from Nielsen.

ABC had the top-rated show in the advertiser-coveted demo with “Modern Family,” which scored a 4.0, up slightly from last week, and brought in more than 10.8 million viewers. The network also had the children’s Halloween special “Toy Story of Terror” at 8 p.m., which hooked an audience of 10.3 million and a demo rating of 3.0. No surprise, it was the No. 1 telecast of the night among ages 2 to 11. “Nashville” increased 6% to a 1.7 in the 18-49 demographic.

ABC, Fox and CBS ended up tied among young adults with a 2.4 all around.

With “Survivor,” “Criminal Minds” and “C.S.I.,” CBS topped the other networks in total viewership, drawing an average of nearly 10.1 million. “Criminal Minds” -- Wednesday’s most-watched program with 10.9 million -- and “C.S.I.” rose a bit in the demo while “Survivor” was flat week-to-week.

Fox aired Game 4 of the American League Championship Series between the Boston Red Sox and the Detroit Tigers. The Tigers beat the Red Sox, 7-3, to tie the series at two wins apiece, with Fox benefiting in the ratings. According to the early Nielsen figures, which are not adjusted for time zones and therefore very much subject to change, the game drew 8 million viewers in prime time and got a rating of 2.4, up 71% from last year’s comparable contest, Game 4 of the NLCS.

ON LOCATION: Where the cameras roll

On NBC, the freshman cop show “Ironside” held steady with last week’s 1.1 rating, while “Law & Order: SVU” picked up 6% to a 1.7. “Revolution” garnered a 1.4, down 7%.

It was another good night for CW, which had new episodes of “Arrow” and “Tomorrow People.” “Arrow” rose 22% from last week’s premiere to a 1.1 in 18-49, and “Tomorrow People” fell a bit from last week’s debut in 18-49, but it picked up steam among younger viewers.
