‘Vikings’ Season 2 finale ratings down from last year
The second season of History channel’s “Vikings” ended with a bit less ratings plunder than the first.
Thursday night’s season finale of the cable drama averaged 3.4 million total viewers, 1.4 million of whom were in the key 18- to 49-year-old demographic, according to Nielsen.
That’s down about 6% in total viewership from the first season finale, and down about 18% among those advertiser-desired younger adults.
“Vikings,” which follows the young warrior Ragnar played by Travis Fimmel, was renewed for a third season in March; that cycle will premiere in 2015.
The series -- set in Scandinavia and co-produced by Irish company World 2000 and Canadian firm Take 5 Productions -- tends to get a considerable boost from delayed viewing: It averages an increase of 55% over seven days of people watching via DVRs and video on demand.
